It's young Wheezer hiding out of sight with his dog Punch, but the kids think it's another boy, so every time they hear the Bronx cheer, they chase the innocent lad and give him a thumping.

This Hal Roach comedy short, High Society, is the thirtieth in the "Our Gang/Little Rascals" series. In this one, Mickey Daniels is Mickey Kelly, a poor boy who lives with his Uncle Pat. While they're broke, they're also very happy playing music and eating corned beef. Since Pat hasn't legally adopted Mickey however, Aunt Kate does so and takes him to her mansion where he clashes with her son Percy (Jackie Condon). The butler tries to make a perfect gentleman of Mickey to the point of wearing a raincoat to get him to take a bath but to no avail. When the aunt temporary leaves the house, Mickey invites his uncle and friends to come. That's when the fun really begins...From a story by Frank Capra, High Society gives us a favorite "Our Gang" theme-the clash between the have and have nots with the have nots winning! Among the gags here: Joe contrives an ingenious way to steal from the fruit stand-get a long funnel and a drainpipe and while making small talk with the owner, put the food in the funnel with Farina, Andy, and Sonny getting the results, the cop who chases them to Pat's house telling him he's going to teach them a lesson by threatening to send them to the penitentiary, Mickey's friends having a ball slipping and sliding on liquid soap on the kitchen floor, and Farina unknowingly feeding alcohol to the parrot and fish with disastrous results. The puppy love romance between Mickey and Mary is one of the sweetest scenes in this short and Pat Kelly as the uncle is a great fun-loving adult for the gang.

Trivia
The story involves the Rascals performing in a make-believe movie theater where they imitate Charles Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, Douglas Fairbanks, William S. Hart, Uncle Tom and the security guard character played by 'Gilbert, Dick'. The Chaplin imitation includes a gag repeated from Shoulder Arms wherein The Little Tramp disguises himself as a tree. The Fairbanks imitation (courtesy of Mickey Daniels) specifically refers to The Three Musketeers. The Lloyd imitation borrows from Grandma's Boy.
The make-believe movie theater sports a real movie poster, which advertises Chaplin's The Idle Class
As in other early Hal Roach Rascals shorts, the Farina character is a girl.

Lesser Our Gang short has the group playing pirates and building a ship to sail in. Once the ship hits water it sinks but they end up on another boat when the good ol' dog unties the rope and the kids head off to sea where they must be rescued by the Navy. This entry in the series certainly isn't the best Hal Roach had to offer but it's decent enough of a time killer but the lack of laughs really keep it from being better. The only laughs don't happen until the end of the film once the kids are on the Navy ship and the Captain informs them that they hang pirates. This small sequence gets a few nice laughs but everything leading up to it is pretty flat. This includes a running joke of Joe chewing tobacco and we get close ups of the spit once it hits the floor. We see this at least five times during the film so apparently someone thought it was funny. Another joke deals with the boys not wanting Mary on the ship because pirates and girls don't go together.
